Board Member
Melanie S. Fields has served as an Assistant District Attorney with the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office since 2002. She has over 18 years of trial experience and currently serves as the Special Prosecutor of Domestic Violence, handling some of the most difficult and complex cases. She has been instrumental in implementing the “Stop the Loss” program designed to target potential abusers.
Melanie received an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education and Teaching from the University of St. Thomas, a Master’s degree in Philosophy from LSU, and a Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU where she serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor in Experiential Learning Programs.
Melanie is active with the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation and served as an officer on the board of the State Bar’s Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education. She is a 2010 recipient of the Crystal Gavel Award and received at Tribute Award in 2014 from the Baton Rouge Association of Women Attorneys. Melanie is a former officer and board president of the Iris Domestic Violence Center.
